New Beginning, New Partnership

On Friday, September 27, Labor United for Universal Healthcare Chair Lenny Potash joined with dozens of single payer organizations and advocates in Oakland to explore the next steps to achieve single payer healthcare in California.

Connie Leyva, President of the California Federation of Labor opened the meeting and former State Senator and single payer advocate Sheila Kuehl spoke of the history of  health care reform in California and the future actions needed to achieve successful single payer reform.

Potash announced the formal affiliation of Labor United to CHC.  “The ACA is just the first step in healthcare reform that expands coverage to currently uninsured people.  But we must finish the job by achieving single payer healthcare in California, and then throughout the nation,” Potash informed the attendees.  Potash also committed Labor United to be fully engaged  in future CHC activities.
